The Commerce department established in the year 1989 is a dynamic department aiming at quality education. It offers B.Com. and M.Com.  It offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in the areas of Finance, Marketing and Personnel Management. The department consists of 10 well qualified faculty members with rich experience. The enrolled strength of Commerce department is around 500 students.  The rapid growth of the Department of Commerce is reflected in its expansion as well as novelty in its academic programmes. 

The department is actively involved in research activities. There are 4 recognized guides for M.Phil. and Ph.D.  The department has produced 76 M.Phil. scholars. Two scholars are pursuing their Ph.D.

For the overall development of the student, Department of Commerce has  signed MOU with professional bodies such as Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK and International Skill Development Corporation, UK to offer B.Com. International Accounting and Taxation, signed MOU with Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India, Kolkata to offer CMA (Foundation) Course and signed MOU with Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, Mumbai to offer Diploma in Banking and Finance.  These programme are well received in the industry and for years had been serving the needs of managerial cadre in business and industry. The course serves the needs of academics as well and prepares students for research and teaching in business studies. 

The faculty has given their contributions in fifteen reputed international journals and numerous ISSN publications. The faculty and students are participating and presenting the research papers in various International and National level seminars and conferences.

The Department through its “Pacioli Club” organizes Conferences and Guest lectures, Industrial visits, Educational Tours, etc., for the students so that they equip themselves to be a part of the society and make measurable contributions.

The Alumni are well placed in business, academics and administration in the country and abroad.  The department is very keen in placing our students in Companies of National and International repute. Our alumni work for companies like TCS, HCL, CTS, IDBI Bank, etc. and are serving as Chartered Accountants, Cost and Management Accountants, Accounts Managers, Marketing Managers, Finance Analysts and Entrepreneurs.

About Department of Commerce with Computer Application

The Department of Commerce with Computer Applications has been incepted in the year 2009 to meet the demand for well qualified commerce with computer professionals.  The curriculum reflects the depth and width of computer applications with hands on experience in current technology.

As the course is a novel by its nature comprises both commerce and computer applications, incorporating the commerce technologies in the form of computer applications, indulging various software viz, C, C++, Oracle, Visual Basic and Tally.   It incorporates innovative subjects such as multimedia, Cyber Security in Finance, Business Analytics and Intelligence and Block chain Technology.  Our Department offers a wide variety of short term certificate courses which are conducted after class hours. In addition to this our department encourages the students to complete online certificate courses in MOOC’s, Swayam, Spoken Tutorial and NPTEL.

For the overall development of the student, Department of Commerce with Computer Application offers online courses, experiential learning in industries, Banks, Insurance Companies and Audit Firms, invited lectures through video conference, skill oriented papers, Summer Internship Programme at Indian Banks, provision for earning extra credits, Soft skill training, entrepreneurship skill training, value education to inculcate moral and ethical values, extension services / service learning offered to promote social awareness and to extend community service, vocational courses to sharpen the vocational skill and to promote self employability.

About B.Com. (International Accounting and Taxation)

B.Com (IAT) integrated with ACCA

The B.Com (IAT) Course at Theivanai Ammal College for Women is s 3 year undergraduate program that has been designed in collaboration with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), UK, and International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC), UK.

This course is integrated with 9 papers of ACCA and gives the students a unique opportunity to pursue Advanced Diploma in Business and Accounting from ACCA, UK alongside their regular 3 years B.Com Course.

It is also mandated to promote the development of, and to regulate the securities market. An investor enjoys investing, the capacity of investors through education and awareness to enable an investor to take informed investment decisions. SEBI endeavors to ensure that the investor learns investing, that is, he obtains and uses information required for investing, evaluates various investment options to suit his specific goals, ascertains his rights and obligations in a particular investment, deals through registered intermediaries, takes necessary precautions, seeks help in case of any grievance.

PG & research department of commerce has conducted a invited lecture on “innovation voucher program” on 13.02.2023. Er. M. Sriraaman, social innovator, KIIT TBI sprash centre, Bhubaneswar BIRAC, Government of India has invited as chief guest and gave a lecture on innovation and entrepreneurship development. He gave a introduction and differentiation among entrepreneurship, business and startups. He gave a problem statement to students and ask them to solve that. He explained about out of box thinking. He gave a comparison between innovation and invention, consumer and customer. He discussed about the risk-taking theories. He quoted “Innovation is not equal to education and background”. Students analyzed the problem-solving skills. He explained the types of commerce and how manufacturing industries has differed from service industries.
