Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is established in 1992 at under graduate level and was promoted to Post graduate level in 2012-2013. Later it grew into research department by introducing M.Phil and Ph.D in 2020. It produced 8 university rank holders. The department has two laboratories possessing necessary chemicals, reagents, glassware, lab wares and basic instruments for performing experiments in physical, inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry, in general and synthesis, analysis (qualitative and quantitative) and characterization of different inorganic and organic compounds in more particulars. The department has a state-of-art instrumentation facility and laboratory infrastructure for conducting quality research. The department has smart classrooms and procured high-end instruments for research with the support of the DST-FIST program. The Department has received TNSCST Project fund in the every academic last five years. The department of chemistry organized invited lecture, Innovative hub activity, and international conferences on thrust areas of chemical sciences.

Milestones

The Department of Chemistry was established in 1992 with 29 students and promoted to PG Department with M.Sc Chemistry in 2012-2013 and to impart quality education in the field of Chemical Science. Later it grew into research department by introducing M.Phil and Ph.D in 2020.

The curriculum is designed to encompass latest advancements and updates in the field. It has produced 8 University rank holders and collaboration with external agencies in order to equip the students to pursue higher studies and placement.Thedepartment provides ample opportunities for developing skills in chemical testing analysis and experimentation. It has well equipped laboratory and caring faculty to make the lab training enjoyable.

The Department conducts Invited lecture through offline / video conference, National and International Conferences, encourages students to undergo Summer Internship programmer, experiential learning and Industrial visit for practical exposure and skill development.

The Department has excellent infrastructure facilities with sophisticated equipment procured. Qualified and experienced Faculty members are an asset to the Department.

It endeavors to promote interaction with the industry and to take up Research & Development activities for the betterment of society through innovative projects at UG, PG and research level such as TNSCST and DST FIST.

Invited Lecture

Lecture on Chemistry Past Present and Future Directions. The talk discusses the chemistry aspects of materials and how they transformed our Understanding in recent times. The application of nanomaterials in the context of various disciplines are to be discussed with the help of speakers’ own research and established future ideas.
